there's a large deaf community in rochester and i've met some of them and they are engaged
certainly there are whiny useless deaf people, just like in any group of people. they don't represent the whole group

@benroyce @jasonb @randahl People everywhere, not just the US, need to understand that you vote for the person/party who most closely fits your views and then push them to do better. We do the party flip-flop in Canada also, and it drives me crazy!
Democracy is not "fire and forget." You have to put in the work to achieve your goals. Unfortunately the right-wing understands that better than most

But I have a question. Where are you seeing a lot of this surrender sentiment? I'm seeing it a little, but not that much. Who/what should I be following to find out more?

@benroyce @Wyatt_H_Knott @mkoek @randahl There is about half a dozen countries in the world where voting is mandatory and Australia, Brazil, and Cyprus actually have a fine for not voting (yeah, about 20 AUS$, but still). OTOH you’re right, a mere handful of dollars wouldn’t convince the people you described with such a colorful metaphor to get their butt to the voting booth…
Watching from this side of the pond and if there’s no epic landslide in November, a LOT will give up on you. -

And I have to vote for Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and was a Bernie voter 2016 and 2020 but ended up feeling Biden was better than I ever thought possible. And ended up loving him in a 100% serious way. Jayapal is my current fave progressive.
