I just spent like an hour and a half watching a video that broke down how one asshole effectively fucked up biking infrastructure in the US and set us back at least three fucking decades.
I'm not sure why I watched the whole thing, but I hate this dude now, and he's not even still alive for me to be able to tell him to his face what a dipshit he is. So that's fun.

@deathkitten I’m guessing you are referring to the NotJustBikes video?
-
@ainmosni@social.ainmosni.eu Uh, yeah. Someone shared it on the Resistbot Discord in the urbanist channel, and I started it without realizing it was an hour and a fucking half long. It was very eye opening.
Also helped put a finger in why I hated a past boss's obsession with his cycling gang, though he did claim that getting involved in that helped him improve his health, so I guess that's good? -
@deathkitten I can recommend @notjustbikes's videos in general, they switch between showing bad urbanism and good urbanism. The creator lives in my ex-home of Amsterdam and often highlights the main thing I miss from the Netherlands, the great traffic engineering, but also often travels to other places to highlight great/horrible pieces of traffic engineering there.

@ainmosni@social.ainmosni.eu I wouldn't be surprised if the video about the child killer monster trucks that are considered "normal" here in the US has been shared in that same discord channel before, if not other videos as well. Not usually the sort of content I watch, but it's def a credit to @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com that I stuck around for a whole hour and half video on a whim.

@deathkitten
I would personally say that his "good urbanism" videos are a more mentally healthy watch, as it's much healthier to see examples on how urbanism is being done well all over the world, and I've learned of some cool spots because of them. -
@ainmosni the biggest problem is that people are way more likely to watch negative videos than positive videos.
For a while I was making about 50/50 "positive" videos (eg, "look at this cool thing in this city") and "negative" videos (eg, "America sucks, lol"), but in terms of views and revenue, 80%+ was coming from the "negative" videos.
I can't really blame "the algorithm" though: it just serves up the videos that people are actually watching. 😔

@notjustbikes @ainmosni I've just watched the video. I didn't know anything about John Forester before and OMFG, what a character he was. 🤯
Thanks for all the research and all the work. It's been a pleasure to watch, as usual. Good job!
