In Spain, railway routes radiate out from Madrid, so when the hopelessly infrequent intercity bus services are saturated, travel to Madrid is effectively compulsory. Everywhere is a much longer journey than necessary.

@lionelb I wanted to do a train round trip around the Península aaaand... Surprise! You can't... Except through Portugal, in Spain you have to pass through Madrid, the only village I don't want to go to
