The reason the US has to deal with this now is they let the Confederacy off with a slap on the wrist. Same thing with post-WW2 Germany, they made a few examples and let the rest of them go, because USians, authoritarian to the bone as always, thought they needed the apparatus to maintain control of the plebs. End result, fash degenerates who should have been kicked off the fucking planet for crimes against humanity got to remain in public offices in all branches of government, and to live long enough to shit into the brains of their children and grandchildren wholesale.
