@buffyleigh it’s a strange book but in a good way - and the film only captures part of it but to great effect
Not really sure why an abridged version would be preferable to the full version.

@wlukewindsor Okay I might try to find a different version then. The abridged is 304 pages compared to 336, seems like an odd decision based on that alone. Thanks!
Dig up the original! Really lovely book.
His novel ‘Star Maker’, published about 8 years after ‘Last and First Men’, deals with a similar subject but at a much (much much) wider scale. I like them both but ‘Star Maker’ is one of my favorite novels. You can’t go wrong with either of ‘em.
@chrkrhc Ooo okay great, definitely keeping an eye out for both then! 🙏🏻
@buffyleigh I read it a long long time ago. Probably in my early twenties. From what I remember dimly, it’s somewhat interesting but slowly paced. I’m not a fan of anything abridged though.
@buffyleigh I don’t know why it would need to be abridged, unless the version I read was, unbeknownst to me, also abridged. It’s not short but it’s really not all that long
@theseliminaldays Zero votes for abridged so far, lol! I can dig slow paced, no need for someone to speed it up for me.🙏🏻
@CoolerPseudonym Yeah comparing page lengths, looks like they cut 30ish pages for the abridged? Possibly more if the academic commentary stuff they add for the series is included in the listed page count, but still.
@buffyleigh Maybe it’s racist or something
@buffyleigh what do they refer with 'abridged'?
