      Not meaning to be an armchair psychologist but... true to say that I have struggled to find new SciFi/speculative fiction by male authors that don't just become tales of violence (aka 'action') with 'goodies & baddies' etc. (zzzz).

        @nigelharpur it happen to me with Autonomous (which I loved) and the Bobiverse which... sweats «cishetero old-fashion 'all species are human-like'» ideas that bored me.

        What books do you recommend?

          @cibersheep

          Well the ones recently were An Unkindness of Ghosts - Rivers Solomon, Medusa Uploaded (and sequel) - Emily Devenport, Theory of Bastards - Audrey Schulman and The Half Life of Valery K - Natasha Pulley

          None of them are 'gentle' in that old fashioned 'feminine' stereo typical sense, but all have great depth, and the original concepts, plots and characterisation are the major part throughout.

          Just IMO obviously!

          (Natasha Pulley's debut The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is fab too)

              @nigelharpur @cibersheep I read Medusa Uploaded (and its sequel) based on this recommendation, and it was certainly interesting. The starting premise of the unapologetic political assassination of fascists was certainly timely, though after that it meandered like a dream or long running television show with the world morphing as the plot was continually invented from chapter to chapter. Glad I read it, even though it is nowhere as masterful as An Unkindness of Ghosts.
